Lipsoction involves removing fatty tissue to re-shape the body. In women, liposuction can be carried out to most areas of the body, including the hips, buttocks, thighs, abdomen (tummy) double chin and knees.

Liposuction procedure

An incision is made in the area of surgery and a thin tube (cannula) is inserted to extract the fatty tissue. This tube is connected to either a syringe or a special surgical vacuum device.

Depending on the specific surgery, there may be a local or general anesthetic.

Techniques for lipsuction differs between surgeons and the indivuals requirements but it it common that a surgeon will inject the selected area with a solution that will control the bleeding and bruising. This also numbs the surrounding area for up to 9 hours after surgery. This soluction is mostly absorbed by the body but there may be a small amount that leaks from the incision. This is perfectly normal and your surgeon will discuss all of this before your operation.

Recovery from lipsocution

Whilst liposuction is a relatively minor operation the area may be tender for a few days after the operation. It is advisable to not partake in any physical activity that may damage the area.

Risks of liposcution

Liposuction is probably the safest form of cosmetic surgery. There is a small chance that the skin of the operated area may be slightly numb but this is rare. The incision is very small so is unlikely to scar.
